20/06/2017 International Workshop on Calcium Sulfoaluminate Cements, 4-6 June 2018, Murten, Switzerland

Please find the first announcement of the workshop here.

Calcium sulfoaluminate cements are receiving increasing interest as an environmentally friendly alternative to Portland cement and as they can be used to formulate mortars and concretes with special properties such as fast setting, high early strength or shrinkage-compensation. Thus in the recent years the number of publications in this field increased rapidly, and new products came on the market.

This workshop aims at exchanging state-of-the-art knowledge regarding production, hydration, properties, durability and application of calcium sulfoaluminate cements. Gathering experts from all around the world will stimulate scientific discussions and can promote national and international collaboration.

– Clinkering
Raw materials, lab and industrial clinkering, mineralizers, kiln operation
– Hydration mechanisms
Kinetics, hydrate assemblages, mineral additions, ternary binders with Portland...

11/01/2017 RILEM Technical Letters

We proudly announce that the first volume (2016) of RILEM Technical Letters has been closed! During the first 10 months (the journal started in March 2016) we have published 20 letters. Thanks to the commitment of the voluntary reviewers and the editorial team, we were able to provide the authors with a very fast publishing process, on average 40 days from submission to publication.

We are happy that the journal and the published letters drew a lot of attention from the community. The first 10 letters published in the first 6 months have been downloaded on average 280 times each (with over 450 downloads for the most read letter)! This is comparable to the most prestigious journals in the field. Congratulations and thanks to the authors!

We also improved the visibility of the letters by assigning DOIs to letters and by depositing the references lists in the Crossref database, and by indexing the journal in the Crossref, PKP and Google Scholar. We hope that these measures will...

07/12/2016 In memoriam Prof. Luigia Binda, 1936 - 2016

It is with great regret, respect and affection that we announce the passing away, after a long period of illness, of our colleague Luigia Binda on the night of Saturday 3 December.

Prof. Luigia Binda was Full Professor at the Faculty of Architecture Politecnico di Milano for many years. Her interests were in preservation and structural restoration of ancient buildings, non destructive evaluation of  structures, material decay due to aggressive environment, mechanical behaviour of brick and stone-masonry, long term behaviour of heavy masonry structures, study of repair techniques....  As Luigia's colleague Marco di Prisco explained in his message of Sunday 4 December announcing her passing away “all members of the previous Department of Structural Engineering at Politecnico di Milano and all people who had been able to work with Luigia, were thankful to her for the enthusiasm and the passion she was able to transfer to many young colleagues”. Luigia led with clear vision, important...
